Cadel goes through a series of misadventures that leaves him with more questions than answers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A coming of age story, the first half of the novel seems very inspired. Seen through the eyes of three young women: Yetta, a Jewish immigrant and militant striker, Bella, an Italian immigrant, and Jane a pampered young American.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is not a story for the weak at heart.  Although it is recommended for 6th to 8th graders, the death of two of the girls in fire is graphic.  there are several scenes were one of the strikers are hit and arrested by the police. Older juvenille readers and young adults will be drawn to this tale that stops just short of true horror and terror. Following a mysterious light, James finds himself in medieval England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth.  He is kidnapped and forced to sing in the Royal Chapel choir.  To his surprise James discovers he truly enjoys singing.  Now he has to try and make it home, even if the queen does want to hear him sing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The storyling is interesting and entertaining, but at times slows and seems forced and prolonged.
